Education at Providence What is the goal of education? As David Hicks said in his book, Norms and Nobility:
“Education must address the whole student, his emotional and spiritual sides as well as his rational. The aims of education, the teacher’s methods, the books and lessons, the traditions, and regulations of the school – all must express not just ideas, but norms, tending to make young people not only rational, but noble.”
This is much easier said than done, particularly in a culture that tends to devalue such aims. High expectations are crucial for a school that adheres to noble norms. Children do not achieve high standards apart from high expectations. At A classical Christian education offers a robust, liberal arts education where students develop into readers and thinkers as they study the great works of the Western World and engage in the great ideas. Students learn to think about all areas of life with the guidance of thoughtful, reflective, and loving teachers who seek to bring all learning under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
