HIGHLANDERS BOYS LACROSSE

General Lacrosse Information for Everyone:

  • Fun Free Lacrosse Games to Watch – The Pac-10 lacrosse shootout is on Feb 13-14 at the University Washington.  Teams from WSU, Univ of Oregon, OSU, USC, Cal, and Stanford will be playing from 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM on Saturday and 11:30 AM – 6:30 PM on Sunday.  Admission is free.

  • Beginner Clinics – We are providing a few clinics for beginners.  Coaches and HS players will give instructions on the basic skills of lacrosse: throwing, catching, cradling, ground balls, dodging, and shooting.  These clinics are free.  They are scheduled for Feb 4, 9, 11 at Providence Classical Christian School at 3:00-5:00 PM.

  • Stealth Clinic  - A professional lacrosse player from the Stealth will be giving a clinic at Providence on Feb 15 from 3:00-5:00 PM.  This clinic is free and will mainly be for experienced players, but everyone (kids and parents) are welcome.

  • Athletic Calendar – The Providence Athletic Calendar includes the special event listed above, and the HS practice and game times.  The website is http://pccs.intand.com

  • Equipment – You must provide your own lacrosse equipment – helmet, mouthguard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, cup, and a stick.  You can often buy a whole package (minus the mouthguard and cup) at once from Breakaway Sports in Bellevue or Seattle, or online at www.lacrossemonkey.com or www.sportstop.com.  Beginning packages cost about $200.

  • Volunteers – During games, the coaches need extra help.  Please be available to help out.  During home games we need timers and scorekeepers.  We also need help setting up the field, the goals, the table and (usually) a tent for the scorekeepers and players.  You will also be required to bring snacks for the players for one of the games.

  • Referees – the league is always looking for more referees.  We can’t play games if we don’t have referees.  Referees for Youth games get paid $40 per game.  Any one in HS or older can be a Youth Lacrosse referee.  To become a referee, you must attend the Referee Certification Meeting on January 31.  More information can be found at http://www.waloa.info.

  • Registration

a.       The fee this year is $125.

b.      We recommend that all our players are members of US Lacrosse.  The cost is $25.  You can register easily on line at http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership/index.phtml.   Being a member of US Lacrosse means that you get a free magazine (6 x year), and you get insurance coverage for injuries sustained while practicing or playing lacrosse.

c.       It is now a state law (Zach-Lystedt Law) that anyone involved in sports has to be aware of the dangers and symptoms of concussions and signs a concussion form.  Basically, if a coach believes that your son has suffered even a mild concussion during a practice or a game, then he must taken out of the game/practice and can no longer play until he has permission from a doctor.  Watch the video, read the fact sheet and take the quiz at this website: http://www.whsbla.org/league-info/concussion.htm. Then sign the Concussion Form

d.      The Boys Youth Lacrosse of Washington (BYLW) requires two forms:  Code of Conduct Form and a Waiver Form.  You must sign both these forms.

e.      Submit your emergency contact and insurance information (unless it is already on file with Providence).
