Mr. Butaud opened with a reading from the book Total Truth.
:: Current Business:
1. Principal's Update – State of the School (accomplishments, challenges, opportunities):
a. Enrollment – Looking good for the year. Currently targeting 175, possibly 180 for next year.
b. financial – definitely getting better. Had some major donations that have helped with cash flow issues from earlier in the spring.
c. faculty – everyone coming back except for one person. One new position opening for bible. Working on interviewing for that. Mr. Shaffer asked about the development position. Mr. Evans reported that it's hard to find someone like that at the pay we can afford. Asked for prayer to get that position filled.
2. Facility Committee - Board Report:
a. Mr. Butaud reported that we have some very good people with a variety of backgrounds on the committee now. Currently asking baseline questions about projected number of kids, how much space needed, what kind of property, location, what sports capacities do we need, etc. Also a subcommittee for land use, to understand land-use laws to be sure we have everything covered environmentally. Once these things are all in place, start planning a capital campaign to begin saving for this new facility.
3. Board recruitment update – moving forward with talking to possible candidates. New recruitment process is taking shape. Not announcing who the possible candidates are out of consideration for the process.
4. Open forum – Guest invited to ask questions:
a. Mr. Shaffer asked about permanent board member positions and their status of sabbatical, and when the two of them come back, will any one of the other two board members go onto sabbatical. Mr. Shaffer suggests that no other members would go on sabbatical for at least a year, because of the way the permanent member sabbaticals are set up. Both members are currently expected to return next school year.
b. Mr. Shaffer also asked a question from the school's statement of faith. From the first paragraph of "the sovereignty of God" the question of first and second causes. Mr. Butaud clarified that the section on primary and secondary causes affirms that God's sovereignty does not deny human responsibility for our actions.
