What is a Christian Education?

There is hardly a more religious activity that we as parents are involved in than the education of our children, regardless of whether we acknowledge it or not.

We are really only a Christian school to the extent that we have conformed our education - both in its presuppositions for existing, as well as in its philosophy of teaching and in the selection of curriculum to the Word of God.

Not a Government School Substitute

We exist as a Christian school, not to be a substitute for the government schools.  That is because we believe that the government has absolutely no warrant for taking the responsibility for the education of children.  That responsibility has been laid squarely upon the shoulders of parents; and more particularly the fathers.  Fathers must teach their children how to bring their theology to bear on everything.  This is what it means to build a Christian worldview.

Take Every Thought Captive

And so, we exist as a Christian school to provide a program of education that helps us "take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ", as Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians.  Much could be said about what we mean by this, but suffice it to say in summary these two things.  First, it means that Jesus Christ is Lord, not only of your heart - He is Lord of poetry and architecture.  He is Lord of mathematics and history.  He is Lord of economics, politics, chemistry, athletics and literature.  He is Lord of all.  He determines what is true, what is lovely, and what is right and wrong - and we are to submit ourselves and all of these subjects to His Word as we study the world in light of the Word of God.  Secondly, because He is Lord of all, it means that all these subjects are interrelated because they all fall under one head - or under what had before been known as the Queen of Sciences, Theology.

All our subjects are taught from a biblical worldview with Christ at the center of all learning.  Our statement of faith does impact how and what we teach. (For a detailed explanation of our doctrines see our Statement of Faith.)

Our Teachers

We hire teachers who not only profess Christ, but who openly show the fruit of loving the Lord - who love children, who love teaching, and who love learning because they are disciples of Christ, the Master Teacher.

Our Curriculum

We select and develop curriculum not with a view to higher SAT scores (although we are confident that will be the case), but with a view to teaching children how to think, speak, write, and live in such a persuasive way as to out-think this present culture in whatever discipline he or she might later pursue - and to be able to do so self-consciously as Christians.  Young men and women filled with grace and truth, confident as to why they exist and to what God has called them.

Our Parents

Finally, we look for parents who are interested in these services, knowing that they are not abdicating their appointed duties, but are looking to us to provide a means of helping to accomplish them.  Our educational program does not exist to replace parental teaching, but to supplement what parents are doing in the home.
